GNM Nursing

The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program at Durgapur Institute of Nursing Sciences is a 3-year diploma course aimed at training students in the core principles and practices of nursing and midwifery.

The program is approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC), ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory compliance.

Students are educated in fundamental nursing, medical-surgical care, maternal and child health, community health, mental health nursing, and midwifery. The training combines theoretical instruction with hands-on clinical experience in hospital and community settings.

Upon completion, graduates are well-equipped to work as staff nurses, midwives, and healthcare providers in both public and private healthcare sectors.

The GNM program also places a strong emphasis on ethics, communication, and patient-centered care.

Course Structure

The GNM course spans 3 academic years followed by a 6-month internship. The curriculum is designed to integrate classroom-based learning with supervised clinical practice.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum age: 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission
  • 10+2 in any stream with English (Science preferred)
  • Minimum 40% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination
  • Selection based on merit and/or entrance examination as per WBNC norms

Admission is based on merit and counseling procedures outlined by the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC).Throughout the course, students are assessed through written examinations, practical evaluations, and internal assessments to ensure they meet the academic and clinical competencies required for safe and effective nursing practice. Regular feedback and mentorship help students improve continuously and stay aligned with professional standards.
